Wiener of the Week

Get out your mustard, everyone! It's that most wienerishous time of year! At the end of every calendar year you get a triple helping of wieners - a WotW, a WotM, and, of course, the long anticipated Wiener of the Year.

We'll start small and work our way up. This week's WotW is a longtime favorite of the Vulture. Yes, boys and girls, Big Media (the BM for short) is back as a WotW.

Seventy-seven percent of Americans believe that the U.S. media is making the economic situation worse by projecting fear into people's minds. The majority of those surveyed feel that the financial press, by focusing on and embellishing negative news, is damaging consumer confidence and damping investment, making a difficult situation much worse.
This isn't the first time I've heard this sentiment voiced, just the first time I've had numbers to back it up. The BM has been running nonstop gloom and doom since September about how horrible the economy is. Didn't these guys get the memo? The Chosen One already won the election. They can back off now.

For taking a bad situation and making it worse by fueling the fear and panic, the BM is my Wiener of the Week.
