Week 4 - not unexpected

I kinda expected it to go this way. The Superdome has never been a friendly place for the Niners, even during the glory years. Well, it WAS, for one beautiful, shining evening, host to the biggest ass whipping in Super Bowl history, when the 89 49ers destroyed the Broncos 55-10. Otherwise, it's been a most inhospitible place.

I didn't see the whole game. Mrs. Vulture had me planting shrubs and bushes all afternoon as SHE watched the game. Okay, she didn't so much watch it as she had it on in the background while she read. Still...there's something wrong with THAT picture, wouldn't you agree?

But I saw enough highlights and read the game recap, so I got the gyst of it. The offense played well at times, but there were too many turnovers. JT finally looked human.

But the defense...oy! 363 yards passing! I know Drew Brees is pretty good, a top echelon QB, but c'mon! And the run defense wasn't much better. The same old problem plagues the defense -- they can't get off the field on third down. Every week it's the same heartbreak with the third down conversions.

Most telling stat of the day: the leading tackler was SAFETY Michael Lewis with 11. When your safety is making 11 tackles, it means the front 7 isn't doing its job.

So now it's New England, fresh off their bye week. At least it's at the 'Stick and there's no Tom Brady. I'll be shocked beyond belief if we win this one, especially with NE coming off of that horrendous performance against the Fish last week.

That 9-7 I spoke of last week? Uh.......not feeling it as much this week. Still, there's improvement. Just not enough.
